Grapevine Canyon NV

For one evening this trip, I was able to escape work, the politics and the stress and just me and my camera were able to explore Grapevine Canyon. It is named after the vines that grow about half way up the valley. This oasis is located about 7 miles west of Laughlin NV. It amazes me in such a short drive you can escape the noisy mindless casinos and find such solitude. There was nobody else there and it was as silent as you can imagine. The only signs are a few small warnings in the parking lot about protecting the petrogliphs. How can so many people be drawn to the ugly cassinos but not here??? All the better for me.

I have looked on the web and found almost no information regarding the ancient art work (graffiti). The common understanding is that it is around 1000 years old.

I wonder if this area is religious to the native people. I swear I could feel something here, could just be the solitude I am not used to.

The trail though the grapevines. This picture does a poor job showing that the plants are over 7 ft tall.

Self portrait.

How can plants grow on rocks??

Some caves that would make good shelter for camp.

This picture is from in the caves looking out.

The sand wash you have to hike up to get there.

At night there were plenty of small bats flying around. By day I only saw lizards.

Dillion

Just a few pictures from Dillion CO. Took a short break from work for lunch. I think this Chipmunk wanted my lunch.

Denver Coyote

This guy was watching me work in the Denver suburbs. I couldn't help taking his picture.

Spring

I took these a month ago in my back yard. They were still on the camera, figured I should post them. The flowers are gone now, but we enjoyed them while they lasted.

That Bird

This bird has been eluding me for over 3 months now…. I cannot make it out the door and within 150 ft without him flying. This is my best picture to date, had to borrow a lens even (70-200mm L IS). It is not very good, but I am still trying.

This bird is a challenge!! Looking at the web, I believe he may be a red tail hawk, but do not have a good enough picture to tell yet.

Feild in March

It is not really winter, but it doesn’t feel like spring yet. Here are a few pics from the field out back. In the next month we should start to have some color.

Payin the Dues

I really wanted to get the toys reflected in the surgical stainless, but it didn’t work that well. Probably will reshoot later with the X-ray back lit in the background. Idea… ideas..

Crane Shadow

During my last months in Hiroshima, there was a song released called “Shadow of the Day”. It is a song about a period of your life ending, saying good-bye and moving on. For some reason, it has stuck with me. I have thought a few times about how to put an image to it and how it related to that period of my life.

A friend made the crane for me, when I had surgery. The light is natural, the afternoon sun setting. It seemed appropriate.

Northern Lights - Reposted Pictures

Last night I drove 15 miles north of town to see the northern lights. It was wonderful. The locals say that they are nicer looking in summer when they have more colors (pink and reds). I think it would be nicer in the summer to not have -15 F.

I reposted the pictures once I got a chance to do some noise reduction on them.

Sled Race

After the morning cold starts on Sunday, we took a few hours to investigate local gear head culture
