Northern Lights - Reposted Pictures

Last night I drove 15 miles north of town to see the northern lights. It was wonderful. The locals say that they are nicer looking in summer when they have more colors (pink and reds). I think it would be nicer in the summer to not have -15 F.

I reposted the pictures once I got a chance to do some noise reduction on them.

Sure, settings as follows:

longest exposure (30 sec)
largest apature 4.5-5
ISO as low as I could 400-650
(At 800 ISO it was far to grainy)

I still need to get a shutter release (it could have been much better). I was very happy the car had a sun roof. I set the tripod on the roof, so I could stay warm!!! I was 15miles from town and the city ligts were as bright to the south as the lights to the north. After 30 min the lights fadded out, I waited anouther 30min in the dark, then left. The lights were a 180deg circle around the north. The lense could only capture 90deg. A wide angle would have been interesting. I am sure I will be back next year. :)
